HUNT AZERBAIJAN

The Dagastan or Eastern Tur is found in the Caucus Mountains of Southern Russia and Azerbaijan. The Dagastan Tur in Azebaijan is larger than the Dagastan Tur found in the Caucus mountains of Russia. The Dagastan or Eastern Tur counts towards both the Ovis and Capra World Slam. The Dagastan Tur found in Azerbaijan is considered the same species as the Dagastan Tur found in Russia. We also offer hunts for the Kuban ( Western ) and Mixed Tur in Russia.

How To Get There:
You arrive in Baku International Airport where our representative meets you and assists you through customs. Baku is serviced through Frankfurt or Istanbul.

Hunting Season:
Hunting Season is from June 10th - November 30th.

Hunting:
Hunting will be conducted from horseback, walking and hiking. The mountains of Azerbaijan are steep and rugged and will require some climbing and walking. Familiarity with horse riding will greatly help. The horses will transport you up into the base camp area where you will stay in a base cabin. Hunting will consist of glassing the hillsides and upper edges of the mountains until the Ram of your choice is spotted. The stalk to the trophy is conducted on foot. Rams live in remote country in the 8000-9000 foot elevation range. The country is truly magnificent. The better condition you are in, the more you will enjoy your hunt. Driven hunts can be arranged if required.
Weather:
The weather in the Caucus mountains can change in an instant. Expect rain, sunshine, heat, cold and snow, sometimes all in the same hunt. Fog is also a real factor. Expect daytime 75-80 F from August thru Mid September with lows of 35-40 F. Expect daytime 55 - 60 F from Mid September thru October with lows of 15 - 25 F. Expect to see snow at the mountain tops the first of September. ALWAYS pack your rain gear every day.
Accommodation:
A base cabin or wooden lodge with beds and tents will make up the majority of your hunting accommodation. Please bring your sleeping bag and thermarest mattress.

COMMENTS: Tur is a unique animal found only in the Caucasus mountains. All three subspecies can be hunted in Russia, and only Dagestan tur in Azerbaijan, where the largest trophies come from. Shooting over a distance of 200-300 yards is common. Hunting camps are located at  altitude of up to 8000 ft., and approximately 4-6 hours traveling from the airport. Transportation to the spike camp from the base camp is done either on horseback, or on foot.  This is one of the most difficult mountain hunts in the world. The hunt takes place at an  altitude of about 10000-11500 ft. and is physically demanding due to very steep, rocky and precipitous slopes. Hunter should bring sleeping bag, sun glasses, sun screen, rangefinder and binoculars.
